Brick & Mortar – Spotlight | Sea Witch | #eatlocal #shoplocal

Prior to Sea Witch’s debut on the St. Clair West strip in August 2014, residents could drive 15 minutes in any direction without hitting a serious chippy. The neighbourhood was ready. “We’re a neighbourhood family and we’re a family business,” says Kevin Kowalczyk, who runs the shop along with his wife and business partner, Jacki Strahl. While Kevin is modest about his pedigree, claiming he’s far from a chef, 2016 will be the 13th year he has exclusively been doing fish and chips. Sea Witch has four other fish regularly on the menu—halibut, haddock, cod and arctic char—but for something different, try the pickerel. “I was born in Manitoba and that’s pickerel country so I’m biased to it,” Kevin says. “Being a freshwater fish, the texture is a little bit different, it has a bit of a sweetness to it.” Pair your perfect golden fish with a cold local craft brew.
