A Good Book Drive – Communities Helping Communities By Anna Oliver

What were some of your favourite books when you were a kid? Did you have a couple that were most meaningful, or do you have more general memories of being read to? Do you remember how excited you were when you learned to read on your own, and the world of books was opened up to you?

I was lucky to grow up with a French Canadian mom who read to me in her native language. My mom bought me my first copy of ‘Le petit prince’ when I was five years old and she read it to me before bed. I could imagine this little boy and his planets up in space and how cool that would be, but felt sad he was all alone. The book helped set me on the path of a lifelong love of reading.

A Good Book Drive is happening in Toronto for the entire month of February. New and gently used books are being collected all month (see the list of drop boxes here) and donated to The Children’s Book Bank in Regent Park, so that kids who might not otherwise have a chance to own their own books can have access to great stories like The Little Prince.

I’m excited to share this story through A Good Book Drive, and hope you’ll donate too!
